National Day/Special Day and Voluntary Day
National Day is a special day allocated to the participating country by the host. Each official participant is designated one day during the Expo period as its National Day and holds an official ceremony and related events. National Days also presents an opportunity to stand out and increase awareness of the pavilion and its mission.

Thematic Weeks
The thematic weeks are initiatives aimed at “Designing Future Societies for our lives” together with the world by taking advantage of the characteristics of the Expo, where countries from all over the world gather in the same place for six (6) months, bringing are together wisdom to solve global issues and exploring solutions through dialogue. There 8 thematic weeks and the table below illustrates the activities and dates:

The Thematic Weeks at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan involves weekly themes focusing on global challenges and collaboration among stakeholders like official participants, governments, and industry leaders. Theme Week programs inside and outside the Expo Site will be executed in conjunction. Parties executing the programs will hold the programs in their respective locations and facilities within the Expo Site, and the programs will be linked to exhibition facilities and venues outside the Expo Site.
Commercial Activities at the Expo Site
Commercial activities at Expo 2025 must comply with relevant laws, ordinances, and guidelines. They are required to align with the Pavilion’s sub-themes and provide unique content. The Expo Site will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while Pavilions will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. With an expected 28.20 million visitors, participants are required to pay royalties to the Organizer. Indoor commercial spaces will not exceed 20% of the total exhibition area.
Participants can operate restaurants and sell goods related to their countries or organizations, but permits are needed for specific items like liquor and salt, and tobacco sales are prohibited. Import restrictions and necessary permits apply to certain items.
Post-Expo, participants may sell or transfer exhibits and materials, provided they comply with customs duties and taxes. All commercial activities must take place in authorized areas, with sales recorded and reported through the designated payment system. Pricing, inclusive of tax, should be visitor-friendly and clearly displayed in Japanese yen. Additionally, participants must be prepared for potential disasters and ensure sustainable operations by incorporating resource recycling, universal design, and accessibility into their practices.
In terms of PNG’s participation in commercial activities, efforts are being made to secure a spacious and more convenient commercial space, outside the expo site, due to the anticipated large involvement of private sector entities from within the country. All stakeholders will be notified when a suitable location is secured or an alternative approach is decided.
