PNG hopes to boost
Japan Expo ties
The official website promoting PNG’s participation at the six-month World Expo in Osaka, Japan in April 2025 was launched on 15th of November 2024.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of International Trade and Investment [MITI], this initiative is designed to encourage and coordinate active involvement from local businesses, corporations, SMEs, and provinces.
The goal is to present Papua New Guinea’s diverse resources and unique sites of global significance, aiming to boost tourism, and promote the country’s products, services, and investment opportunities.
The Expo pavilion, backed by K8 million in government funding, will provide an extensive platform where each major sector—tourism, hospitality, fisheries, mining, and petroleum—will have its own dedicated display, showcasing potential investment opportunities to a global audience.
Minister for International Trade and Investment Richard Maru emphasized that this is a national initiative intended to benefit the entire country, not just select individuals.
“We expect 26 million visitors to attend the Expo in person, but through this website and digital reach, we’ll have the potential to reach billions.
The Department of ICT has been tasked with designing a modern, visually appealing website that effectively represents Papua New Guinea on the world stage.
“We need a website that will propel us to the next level, captivating visitors with engaging content,” Maru added.
